Poor Annie

Last Monday our fence was leaning . . . and the dogs snuck out during dinner (unbeknownst to us). I happen to look out the window and see Annie in the back field, outside of our fence. I had no shoes on, so Will went running out in his work clothes to get her. Otis had apparently joined her and was along for the joy ride. Annie obediently came running back in, but she scraped her back on a rusty nail on the way back in, where the fence was leaning.

Unfortunately, this required me to take her to the emergency vet (regular vet was closed) and they quickly told me she needed surgery. I was able to go back and get her later that night. They had to leave a drain tube in, which was finally removed last Thursday. Here are a few pics - her cone and the cut with the drain tube. Don't look if it will gross you out. Anyways, I had no idea that a nail could do so much damage. It pushed into her tissue and muscle and created an air pocket, which can be dangerous. It is miserable having to see your pet in pain. Luckily she got good care, and I remembered the correct timing for all of her meds.

We go back next week to get all stitches out. Praying we have no more dog emergencies . . .

August Amarillo trip

Nathaniel and I flew up to Amarillo in early August to see family. I forgot my camera, in the effort of trying to pack light, but my mom sent me a CD with some pictures. We enjoyed lots of swimming and playing in the sprinklers.

You can tell in this picture Nathaniel is ready to hit the pool. "Come on mom!"

Lots of fun with Aunt Hillary.

A typical windy West Texas day, as you can see from my hair.

He was actually pouting here, because he couldn't go down that big slide in the background. What a daredevil.

Helping Granddad water.

It was a great summer trip! We can't wait to go again.

Potty Success!

This morning I went to pick up Nathaniel from his Bible class and they asked if I was potty-training him.
Me: "Nooo . . .? "

His teachers: "Well, he peed on the potty today."

Me: "What!?"

Note: He has a girlfriend that's a little older than him in there, and she pees in the potty. So Nathaniel really wanted to go also. They let him sit on there and he peed! I couldn't believe it.

They asked me what Nathaniel had been signing, and it was the sign for potty. Nathaniel showed a little interest this summer, so I bought the potty seat since I knew we would need it eventually. We have sat on the potty several times, with nothing happening. And we haven't done it recently. Apparently the practice paid off, I just can't believe I missed it!

So, I still don't have any real plans to potty train him, unless he wants to or pushes it. It just shows that when he puts his mind to something, he does it.

Will's Birthday Rain

Sunday was Will's birthday! We went out to eat breakfast, then hit the park to play for a bit before church. We had nice cool weather, and were enjoying the clouds. All of a sudden, it started pouring rain on us (which was fantastic since we're in such a drought). However, we got pretty soaked. We took shelter under a pavilion, but decided to let Nathaniel play in the rain some more (since he wanted to). He was so excited. He stomped in the puddles, twirled around and got absolutely soaked. I wish we had pictures, but I am recording it so that we have the memory. I had an extra outfit, so we changed him and took him in to church. Unfortunately, I had to send him in to church without socks and shoes (they were too wet). But he had a terrific time!

Happy 34th Birthday Will!

What happened to Dad

This happened last Sunday when I ran downstairs to get something before church. I told Will I was running downstairs, and he said okay. When I came back up, I noticed this - Will was shocked at what had happened in just a minute or so. Nathaniel had grabbed the paper towels off of the kitchen counter and done this while Will was fixing something in the living room (he's just to the left of the green bucket). I couldn't stop laughing and got these hilarious shots.

Too funny!

Labor Day Fun

We had a very relaxing Labor Day! Some friends came over for grilling and playing. Here are some good shots of Nathaniel and friends. However, I didn't get good shots of everyone - there was just too much going on.

Nathaniel and Izzy in the bucket.

Now Berit is joining in the bucket!

New Leggo Table

Will found this leggo table on sale for only $25. It was used, but has been one of the best purchases ever. Unfortunately Nathaniel climbed up on top of the table this day. I told him he had to get down, that he would hurt himself (after I snapped a few shots).

Notice he is also clutching his favorite wooden trains. :) He likes to hold all 3 at once.
